BA and union poised for talks, but no deal at Aer Lingus

British Airways and cabin crew union Unite are poised to meet for talks arranged by conciliation service Acas after failing to meet last week.

BA management and union officials will make a renewed attempt to settle a dispute now in its sixteenth month after cabin crew voted for renewed strike action. Unite must name the dates for strikes by the end of next week if it is to comply with trade union law following a ballot which ended on January 21.

A separate dispute between Aer Lingus and its cabin crew continues to disrupt flights despite talks with officials of Irish union Impact on Friday aimed at finding a resolution.

Aer Lingus warned of “the potential for some disruption” today (Monday January 31) amid a work to rule by some crew and with an escalating number of staff suspended in a row over new rosters.

The dispute has caused the cancellation of about one in ten flights since it began a fortnight ago. Aer Lingus continues to enjoy support in the form of leased aircraft and crew from rival and would-be owner Ryanair.

Aer Lingus passengers are advised to check the status of flights on www.aerlingus.com before departing for the airport. The carrier flies from Gatwick, Heathrow, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Belfast in the UK.
