Coronavirus: International Hospitality Investment Forum cancels Berlin event

The International Hospitality Investment Forum (IHIF) in Berlin has been cancelled due to growing concerns over coronavirus.

The event, due to take place next week, has been postponed until May.

Event organiser Questex said it had “become clear that the most prudent action” was to postpone both IHIF and its co-located event Adjacent Spaces@IHIF.

The event will now take place on May 4-6 at the InterContinental and Pullman hotels.

A decision on whether ITB goes ahead next week amid the coronavirus outbreak looks set to be made today.

Organisers of the giant travel trade show in Berlin said they were co-ordinating with public authorities in Germany over the impact of the virus.

Paul Miller, chief executive of Questex, said: “This was a very difficult decision as many in the community were asking us to proceed with the show. Ultimately there is no greater importance than the health and safety of our community members and that will always be the guiding principle that drives our business.

Alexi Khajavi, Questex managing director EMEA, added: “We are sorry to disappoint our delegates but their safety and wellbeing, as well as that of our presenters and staff has to come first. We have the support and commitments of our industry partners and IHIF will be back as always better and bigger.”
