Coronavirus: Hays Travel launches ‘Peace of Mind’ guarantee

Hays Travel has introduced a ‘Peace of Mind’ guarantee allowing customers to cancel or amend bookings up to six weeks before departure.

In a video address on the agency’s Facebook page, owners John and Irene Hays said the initiative had been launched to “reassure” customers amid concerns over travel as the coronavirus outbreak worsens.

Irene Hays said: “People are understandably hesitant about not wanting to book a holiday. Despite that, we are taking lots of bookings for late 2020 and 2021.

“(But) we have given lots of consideration on what we could do to reassure people who want to get their holiday booked, that that holiday or their personal position, will be safe.”

John Hays said: “To reassure you we have introduced the Hays Travel Peace of Mind guarantee. Wherever you see the logo next to a holiday means we will guarantee that you can cancel or amend free of charge up to six weeks before departure.”

The owners also thanked customers for their “continued support”.

Hays Travel operates 650 shops across the UK after taking over the leases for Thomas Cook stores last year.

It also runs a consortium business which has 112 agent member and a homeworking division.

Its homeworker conference, which as due to take place in Tenerife this month, was cancelled this week.

Dozens of operators, cruise lines and airlines have introduced flexible cancellation and amendment policies in light of the growing concern around coronavirus.
