Coronavirus: High street travel agencies close doors

A number of independent high street travel agencies have shut their doors following government advice to limit non-essential movements.

Miles Morgan Travel, Tailor Made Travel and Sutton Travel have introduced a closed-door policy with staff managing customer enquiries via phone and email.

Miles Morgan Travel owner Miles Morgan tweeted a picture of a sign which went up this morning announcing the new measures, adding: “Am I really sending this poster out? Got to do the right thing for staff and customer alike.”

The agency operates 21 shops in the south west.

Tailor Made, which operates 20 shops in Wales, has announced it will be closing its doors, informing customers on its Twitter feed and website that shops are only available for telephone contact.

Sutton Travel, which operates a branch near Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands, said it was also operating a closed-door policy to clients from Tuesday with staff contactable through phone and email.

The agency said the decision was a “responsible move” to stop the spread of coronavirus.
