Coronavirus: Travel Money Card currency ‘can be transferred to sterling’

The Post Office is reminding its Travel Money Card customers that foreign currency held on their cards can be transferred back to sterling free of charge.

The card can be used in shops or online or to withdraw money from ATMs or at a Post Office counter.

A Post Office spokesperson said: “While travelling abroad is not at the forefront of people’s minds right now, we want to remind Travel Money Card holders who have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic that they may have foreign currency sitting on their card right now that can be transferred to Pounds to help with day to day expenses.”

Card holders stranded abroad can still add foreign currency to pay for expenses overseas.

Post Office Travel Money has suspended online foreign currency purchases and its in-branch pre-order service in light of new restrictions.
