Air Canada is due in court on Wednesday to fight a request by prospective hostile buyer Onex Corporation for a shareholder meeting to be held to consider the deal (Travel Weekly August 30). Onex wants the airline’s shareholders to meet on November 8, but Air Canada wants to delays discussions to January 7.

Jersey European Airways is to use the first of 15 new quiet Dash-8 aircraft on the Southampton-Guernsey route next month. It replaces an ATP turboprop to give increased comfort and quicker flights.

Leeds/Bradford Airport recorded a 36.5% increase in operating profits to £4.2m for the year to March 31, compared with the previous financial year. Managing director Ed Anderson said an 8.7% passenger increase to 1.4m helped profits.

Exeter Airport has completed a review of technology to ensure systems are millennium bug compliant. The airport started the review process in March 1998 and has pledged to continue to assess systems in the run-up to 2000.

Crossair and aircraft manufacturer Embraer are seeking operating authority to use 39-seater ERJ-135s at London City Airport. The airline currently uses 100-seater Avro RJ-100s to serve Geneva and Zurich and 50-seater Saab 2000s to Basel from London City.
