Leading UK online travel agency Travel Republic has appointed a managing director to run its new Spanish arm.
Travelrepublic.es has gone live in Spain representing the retailer’s first foray into international markets.
As well as an office in Barcelona, Travel Republic is operating a call centre to take advantage of the strong relationships it has with Spanish hoteliers.
The firm said expansion into Spain was the “logical choice” due its range of hotels in the country and the high level of domestic travel.
The new hotel-only website features over 100,000 hotels and apartments worldwide with Portugal, Cyprus, Greece and the UK featured alongside Spain.
Existing Travel Republic employee Ariel Fabregas has been appointed Managing Director of Travel Republic Spain, to head up the new operation.
He said: “I am delighted that we have launched Travel Republic in Spain. We offer an extensive range of the best hotels at the cheapest prices, and I look forward to helping many new customers find their perfect deal.
Travel Republic’s move overseas follows a trend of UK travel firms expanding beyond these shores including Lowcost Travel Group, On Holiday Group, Travel Counsellors and Holiday Taxis.
Kingston-Upon-Thames based Travel Republic claims to be one of the top five most visited travel agency websites in the UK according to Hitwise.
