BRITISHAirways has found new positions for its three global regional directors whose posts were axed as part of the airline’s management restructure earlier this month (Travel Weekly September 13).
George Cooper, former regional director Europe, takes on the newly created role of director airline business in the commercial department with responsibility for the profitability of BA’s subsidiaries and franchise carriers.
John Wood, Cooper’s counterpart covering the Americas, becomes director of commercial policy and planning where he will be responsible for ensuring activities are in line with company plans.
David Noyes has already taken the role of director of alliances and franchises after his old post of regional director Asia was axed.
All three will report to Carl Michel, head of BA’s newly formed commercial unit.
The carrier has yet to decide the future of Charles Gurassa, whose role of director of passenger and cargo business was axed in the shake-up.
BA is scrapping 300 management jobs and a further 700 posts as part of a £225m cost-cutting drive. The move comes after profits nose-dived over the past year due to intense competition, especially on the transatlantic routes, and the worldwide economic downturn, according to BA.
