Former Lunn Poly boss Ian Smith has re-emerged in the trade as the new group chief executive of Page & Moy Travel Group, replacing William Burton, also an ex-Thomson Travel executive.
No explanation was given for the change of senior management at the escorted tour operator which incorporates the Travelsphere, Page & Moy and Just You brands.
All the company would say was that Smith, managing director in the 1990s of the Thomson-owned leading multiple Lunn Poly, will be joining as group chief executive – the role previously held by Burton.
A spokeswoman confirmed that Burton had left the business.
Smith takes responsibility for the management of all three brands and 300 staff at Page & Moy Market Harborough-based office.
In the past decade he has held a variety of positions ranging from chairman of Sun Villas Florida Direct, chairman of Et-china.com, Southern China’s largest tour operator based in Guangzhou, and more recently executive chairman of the Education Travel Group where he remains as a non executive director.
Smith said: “In Travelsphere, Page & Moy and Just You we have three of the UK travel industry’s quality brands.
“Together they command a significant franchise of loyal customers. I am truly looking forward to leading Page and Moy Travel Group as we move forward to exploit our position in the escorted tours sector.”
