Tui and Wizz Air are ramping up summer services from Doncaster Sheffield airport following months of Covid-19 lockdown.
Tui returns on August 1 with flights to destinations such as Lanzarote, Tenerife, Palma, Kos, Rhodes, Cyprus and Turkey.
Budget carrier Wizz Air restarts operations from today (July 1), with the first flights expected to Riga, Krakow, Vilnius and Bucharest.
The airline is due to add to its network as the government and Foreign Office relax current legislation and restrictions on international travel, according to the Yorkshire airport.
Tui plans to carry as many as 50,000 people from Doncaster Sheffield between August 1 and late October.
The airport claimed a “huge uplift” in interest from prospective travellers in recent days.
Safety measures within the terminal building include social distancing, the use of safety screens, hand sanitiser stations and an enhanced cleaning programme.
Passengers and staff will be asked to wear face coverings at the airport and to follow up to date public information displays.
Personal protective equipment packs will be on sale for £5 on entry to the airport, including two face masks, two packs of anti-bacterial wipes and two sets of gloves.
Airport operations director Dee Thomas said: “We’re delighted to welcome back our Tui passengers to DSA and get their summer holiday’s off to a great start.
“DSA has remained operational throughout the coronavirus pandemic, with our runway remaining fully operational for our freight operations.
“We’ve supported the movement of perishable goods for supermarket shelves and personal protective equipment in support of the NHS.
“However, passengers are our core business and we are so thrilled to welcome them back.”
Thomas added: “Wizz is a valued partner and we are proud to be one of their UK bases. We celebrated four million passengers last year and look forward to welcoming many more now that operations have restarted.”
