Heathrow Express makes digital-only sales permanent

Heathrow Express is making digital-only ticket sales permanent as the airport rail service gears up for a revival in travel following the Covid-19 outbreak.

The non-stop service moved to digital sales during the pandemic.

Passengers will continue to purchase tickets online, via an app and in terminals and stations using card or contactless payments.

Customers can also use contactless payment or Oyster cards by tapping in and out at ticket barriers in stations.

Peak and off-peak ticket restrictions are also being lifted from September 6.

Tis will allow customers with single tickets to travel at any time of day.

A £22 Express Class single ticket will also become an online exclusive “rewarding customers” who opt to make use of the company’s multilingual website and app.

Director Les Freer said: “As part of a range of measures to help customers travel safely following the Covid-19 pandemic we want to offer customers a contactless experience as much as possible.

“Our new, more flexible fares will mean best value tickets can always be guaranteed when booking before travel at heathrowexpress.com or via our app.”

The introduction of more flexible tickets follows Heathrow Express has frseezing fares since 2017 and more than halving the cost of weekday advance tickets with the introduction of the multilingual website and app in October 2019.

Safety measures since the coronavirus outbreak have included additional cleaning before every departure from London Paddington and overnight at the depot, social distancing signage and an animation on travelling safely.

This complements the use of face coverings which remain mandatory on public transport in England unless travellers are exempt.
