Former STA employees push TravelCares fund towards £12,500

A group of former STA Travel employees have supported Travel Weekly and Abta LifeLine’s TravelCares appeal, pushing the total raised in a week to almost £12,500.

A number of senior industry figures started their careers at STA Travel, and felt that supporting the appeal was a way of marking the agency’s demise due to the coronavirus pandemic.

TravelCares was created as a partnership between Travel Weekly and Abta LifeLine as the charity gears up to support growing numbers of people within the industry whose lives have been adversely affected by the Covid-19 crisis.

Including Gift Aid, the appeal fund now stands at more than £15,000.

Clare de Bono, head of retail customer solutions at Amadeus, said: “Thank you Abta Lifeline for helping travel industry colleagues in need. STA Travel made me the person I am today. I hope to pay a bit of that forward to help current STA’ers in need.”

Other supporters of the appeal included the team at Lotus, part of W Communications.

They said: “Thank you Travel Weekly and Abta LifeLine for launching this important campaign to support those most in need in the travel industry.”

All donations to the appeal are welcome, however large or small.

Trudie Clements, director of Abta LifeLine, said: “We recognise it’s a difficult time for many, but it would be fantastic if those that can, get behind our appeal and donate just a small amount – why not donate the 50% you might have saved on a coffee or breakfast this morning? Every penny really does count.”
