Abta LifeLine shortlisted for two national awards

Abta LifeLine has been shortlisted for two awards for its work assisting those in need in the travel industry.

The charity has been recognised in the Third Sector Awards, which honour the achievements of charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises.

It has been shortlisted in the Charity of the Year category and is also in the running for the Small Charity, Big Achiever honour.

Last month, Travel Weekly and Abta LifeLine joined forces to launch the TravelCares appeal to raise funds to help the charity support those adversely affected by the Covid-19 crisis.

Trudie Clements, Abta LifeLine director, said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the Third Sector Awards and to be recognised for the important work we have done over the last year. The demands on the charity have been unprecedented; working to help colleagues following the collapse of Thomas Cook, quickly followed by those struggling as a result of the pandemic.

“We have established effective partnerships to provide colleagues with the right expert advice and support they may need at a difficult time as well as helping financially with crisis grants and food vouchers.”

She added: “As furlough unwinds, we know that many more colleagues will turn to us for support. That means we need to generate vital funds and at a very challenging time.

“This is why the TravelCares appeal is so important. I would like to encourage anyone who is able, to get behind the appeal. It doesn’t have to be a large donation. If lots of colleagues donated just five pounds, all those five pounds added up would make a significant difference to our less fortunate friends and colleagues. These are the true winners of our achievements.”

The Third Sector Awards will be held virtually on October 7 and 8. To donate to the TravelCares appeal, click here.
