Ionian Weddings woos agents with 10% commission

Greece and Cyprus weddings specialist Ionian Weddings has revealed plans to sell through the trade for the first time.

The operator, which organises weddings in the Greek islands and Cyprus, is offering agents 10% commission to sell its product as part of bespoke packages. Agents have to arrange flights, transfers and accommodation separately.

Until now, Ionian Weddings has worked informally with just one agency, Manchester-based Prestbury Travel.

Now it plans to set up formal arrangements with independent and Greece specialist agencies.

Founder Jane Palikiras said: “We are very excited to be launching our bespoke wedding service to the travel trade. We think our wedding expertise and knowledge of unique venues across Greece and Cyprus will be a good fit with travel agents who can offer in-depth knowledge of accommodation and airlines.”

Ionian Weddings’ wedding locations range from a private island, former opera house and rustic chapels to a historic palace, beach bar and vineyard. The company takes care of the legal paperwork, photographers, bridal car, flowers, reception and music.

New venues for this year include Melissani Lake in Kefalonia, which offers weddings in a boat in a lake enclosed by grotto walls covered by 20,000-year-old stalactite and stalagmite formations. Boat hire costs from £440.
