AMERICANAirlines is investing millions of pounds in state-of-the-art technology for UKpassengers.
The carrier will offer DVD players showing enhanced quality films in business and first-class cabins on flights serving Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham.
The DVD players come with noise reduction headsets and a range of the latest movies.
First-class passengers on UK flights can use the equipment now on Boeing 767 aircraft but business customers have to wait until July 1.
The technology has already been installed on the carrier’s MD-11s.
American is also rolling out the entertainment option on US and South American flights.
Meanwhile, the airline is to spend £10m on providing computers, printers and Internet access for its staff. The initiative will cost staff and families £8 a month for the home computers. A decision will be made at the end of the month on which computer and Internet service provider American will use.
Deliveries will be made throughout the rest of the year.
American is also ensuring that all staff have access to the Internet at work and access to the amrcorp.com Web site.
