Budget carrier to start London-India flights

Indian budget carrier SpiceJet has confirmed the start of flights to London from Delhi and Mumbai.

The carrier is to serve Heathrow from December 4 using a 371-seat Airbus A330 in a two-class configuration.

The airline plans three flights a week – two from Delhi and one from Mumbai. One-way fares start at £270.

Chairman and managing director Ajay Singh said: “I am extremely pleased to share that SpiceJet will launch flights to London Heathrow beginning December this year.

“SpiceJet will be the first Indian low-cost airline to operate non-stop long-haul flights to the UK.

“London is one of the busiest long-haul destinations from India and our flight timings should suit the convenience of our passengers perfectly.”

Indian full-service carrier Vistara started flying to Heathrow from Delhi in August with three flights a week under a bilaterial ‘transport bubble’.

Virgin Atlantic resumed flights to Delhi from the London hub in September.

UK travellers returning from India currently have to quarantine for 14 days under Foreign Office travel guidance.
