Venice has been chosen for the first Langham hotel in Italy and the luxury brand’s third property in Europe.
The 138-room Langham, Venice is due to open in 2023 on the island of Murano in a former casino building dating back to the early 1600s.
The historic building has a direct frontage on the Venetian Lagoon and will be extensively renovated.
The Langham, Venice is described as a “significant breakthrough” in the group’s European expansion strategy, joining a flagship property in London and one in Munich.
Thirty future locations in the pipeline include Paris, Berlin, Tokyo, San Francisco, Jakarta, Gold Coast of Australia and Chengdu.
Chief executive Stefan Leser said: “The opening of The Langham, Venice will be an important milestone for the brand as we continue to cultivate our presence in Europe.
“Venice remains one of the world’s leading leisure destinations and we are delighted to have found such an exceptional site on which to develop our first hotel in Italy.
“The Langham, Venice will provide an exclusive leisure experience that blends the finest elements of the local Venetian culture and heritage with personalised intuitive service that are the hallmarks of The Langham luxury experience.”
