Wizz Air reports 69% October passenger slump

Wizz Air passenger carryings fell by more than 69% in October as the impact of the Covid crisis continued to weigh heavily on the airline sector.

The eastern and central European budget carrier saw year-on-year numbers fall from 3.7 million to 1.1 million last month.

Capacity was down by 55% to 1.7 million seats over October 2019.

The airline’s load factor also fell by 29.4 percentage points to 65.9%.

The October figures gave a rolling 12-month total of 27.3 million passengers, down 33.7% from 41.2 million.

The airline continued to expand last month with plans for expansion in Norway with new bases in Oslo and Trondheim together with Bari in Italy.

The fleet was expanded to 134 aircraft with the addition of two Airbus A320neos.

Wizz Air’s October results came a day after rival Ryanair reported a €197 million half-year loss.
