Lufthansa to start Covid testing on German domestic route

Lufthansa will start rapid Covid-19 antigen tests on selected flights between Munich and Hamburg next week.

Passengers will be tested free of charge before departure on two daily flights from November 12.

Travellers will receive their test results within 30 to 60 minutes.

Only on presentation of a negative test will boarding passes be activated and access to the gate granted.

Alternatively, passengers can present a negative PCR test taken no later than 48 hours at departure.

Passengers must register in advance and allow more time before departure.

A morning departure from Munich to Hamburg is due to be the first test flight to carry 100% negative passengers.

Those who do not wish to be tested will be transferred to an alternative flight at no additional cost, according to the carrier.

Customer, IT and corporate responsibility director Christina Foerster said: “With our test strategy, we are pursuing the goal of using the data obtained to gain important insights into the use of rapid tests.

“Successful testing of entire flights can be the key to revitalising international air traffic.”

The testing is being conducted in partnership with Munich and Hamburg airports, biotech company Centogene and medical care centre, MVZ Martinsried.
