An online petition has been established calling on the Ibiza government to maintain a subsidy to support Ryanair’s winter flights to the island.
The ‘reinstate winter flights’ petition is directed at the Balearic island’s tourism minister Carmen Ferrer.
It says she and her government colleagues have decided not to pay Ryanair €365,000 per year as a subsidy towards winter flights saying that it did not represent good value for money as it “did not result in an increase in the number of establishments open”.
The petition, which has gained more than 5,000 recommendations on Facebook, says: “Flights are the lifeline of Ibiza and we think that the Ibiza government has made the wrong decision.”
