P&O Cruises sales and planning director Nigel Esdale said that despite the reduction in destinations there were still six cruises, comprising 12 one-week sectors, where a land stay option could be tagged on. Also, there are now more one- stay options, making the system more flexible.
“We have refined the concept and run with it again in 2000,” he said. “We have concentrated on Italy – the Riviera and Rome. It’s a simpler proposition and we can control what we are doing more easily.”
Customers can combine a visit to Rome with a resort stay and a cruise if they wish.

P&O CRUISES has cut the number of land destinations it offers in its 2000 cruise-and-stay programme down to four options.
When the company introduced the cruise-and-stay concept last year it featured Rome, Pisa, Florence, Naples, Pompeii and Athens.
However, in P&O’s newly published main brochure, covering January 2000-April 2001, only Rome and Florence have been retained from last year’s list. Sorrento and Viareggio are included for the first time.
