Southend airport owner set to change name

Stobart Group, the owner of Southend airport, plans to change its name to Esken.

This follows the sale of the Eddie Stobart and Stobart trademarks to Eddie Stobart Logistics for £10 million in May 2020.

Stobart Group agreed as a result of the deal that it would change its name before the end of February 2021.

The group’s operating divisions may continue to use the brand to May 2023 and Southend airport will not change its name.

The name Esken is derived from an old English word meaning to ‘ascend, climb and rise.’

A virtual general meeting will be held on February 3 foer shareholders to approve the new name.

The company’s website will change on February 4.
