Customers urged to sniff before they buy

TRAVEL Choice nose no bounds, it seems, when it comes to slick marketing.

The agent has taken to pumping holiday smells into the atmosphere of a few of its stores as part of an experiment to see if it gets the punters buying. Apparently the scent of coconuts, bananas and bergamot linger in the air and the customers then subliminally resolve to rush towards the Caribbean section as they flick through the brochures to Bognor.

Travel Choice managing director Gerry Reilly explained: “It’s only in a few stores at the moment to see if it has any effect.

“Mind you I have already decided I don’t like the coconut – it’s a bit like sitting next to a Bounty bar.”

Backchat begins to wonder whether Travel Choice could take the marketing stunt just one step further and start making the smells fit the destination? Suggestions pleaseÉ
