Breaking: Gatwick flights suspended as Virgin flight makes emergency landing

An emergency landing by a Virgin Atlantic aircraft that had to turn back has prompted all flights to be suspended at Gatwick.

Reports said flight VS027, being operated by an Airbus A330-300, was forced to return after smoke was detected in the cockpit.

A Gatwick Airport spokeswoman told the BBC: “It has made a safe emergency landing.

“The emergency services are on the scene and the aircraft is safe and passengers are being disembarked.”
