Finnair introduces ‘simplified’ ticketing regime

Five types of ticket are being introduced by Finnair in a move the carrier claims simplifies airline ticket purchasing.

Two business class and three economy class tickets will become available from November 28.

The airline is also changing the way points can be collected on its Finnair Plus frequent flyer scheme from being kilometre-based to a region-based calculation. Passengers are expected to gain approximately 30% more points as a result.

The five new ticket types start at Basic and rise through Value and Pro in economy class, while the two business class levels are Business Saver and Business.

“The goal is to improve clarity in ticket pricing and offer fares to all segments of customers in the fast-growing market in air travel, the airline said.

“All Finnair tickets include, free of charge, at least one carry-on, one piece of checked luggage and a route-specific meal or beverage service on flight.

“Our customers can now choose a more flexible ticket and priority airport services on specific airports, even on economy class.”

Customer service senior vice president Anssi Komulainen said: ”These new ticket types enable passengers to book the fare most appropriate for their needs, in a simple and transparent way, without sacrificing the core product offering that all passengers expect from a high-quality, full-service airline like Finnair.

“We want to offer clear and understandable options to customers who come from all walks of life and who each have different needs and priorities when they fly.”

The new ticket types are:

Business: Business Class premium services, full flexibility. Business class cabin and meal service, lounge access, priority airport services (check-in, security, boarding, baggage claim), two pieces of checked luggage, two carry-ons, advance seat selection, unlimited flexibility, fully refundable, 200% Finnair Plus points.
