A tsunami measuring one metre is expected to hit the northeast coast of Japan following an earthquake.

The tremor was measured at a magnitude of 7.3 according to the US Geological Survey and was said to have shook buildings in the capital Tokyo.

The tsunami warning is for the region of Japan, the Miyagi Prefecture, devastated by a tsunami following an earthquake in March 2011.

The 2011 earthquake and tsunami caused a nuclear crisis at the Fukushima plant but authorities in Japan have reported no problems following today’s tremor.
