SOMAK Holidays’ owners are preparing to sell the company as it looks to expand overseas.
The Africa specialist, which is owned by the Sofat family, admitted talks have taken place but refused to disclose who with.
Managing director Ash Sofat said:”Negotiations are at an early stage but further talks are planned.”
Thomas Cook, which has always said it needs to strengthen its long-haul product, is believed to be among the front runners.
The acquisition talks emerged as Somak appointed senior manager Stuart Britton as managing director to replace Sofat, who becomes chiefexecutive.
Sofat said the move will give him time to concentrate on the company’s overseas expansion.
“We are investing in a company in Los Angeles which runs safaris to East Africa and are also looking at setting up operations in Scandinavia,” he said.
