London’s Victoria Station closed after Gatwick Express fire

Victoria station in London was evacuated at the start of this morning’s rush hour due to a fire on a Gatwick Express train.

The Gatwick Express website said “mass disruption” was expected, while National Rail said trains were unable to run to or from the station until further notice.

The London Fire Brigade sent two appliances to the station. The fire was extinguished before 7.45am, but smoke still had to clear.

The station later re-opened but there was disruption to services. Commuters were told that journey times could be extended by about 45 minutes.
