EasyJet raises stakes in Web fares battle

EASYJET has stepped up the low-cost airline Internet battle by discounting on-line fares by £5.

The Luton-based carrier said the move was a strategic step to increase its number of Web bookings.

Around half of sales are already booked on easyjet.com but the carrier is aiming to achieve 60%.

The £5 discount covers a £2.50 reduction each-way.

The carrier’s rival Ryanair only offers its cheapest fares on the Web, while Go and Buzz knock £2 off return on-line sales.

All budget airlines are heavily advertising their Web sites for direct sales but only Go allows agents to take advantage of reduced Internet prices to pass on to customers in the form of increased fares.
