Nearly £18,000 was raised for Globe Travel Awards charity Reuben’s Retreat last week – the highest amount ever raised in the event’s history.
Guests at the awards, held at Grosvenor House hotel last Thursday, were asked to donate to the charity. Travel Weekly contributed £5,000.
Reuben’s Retreat was set up in memory of toddler Reuben Graham, who passed away last summer. His parents both work in the industry.
Its aim is to set up a retreat for families who have a child with a life-limiting or life-threatening illness or have suffered a bereavement.
The charity has raised more than £200,000 in 21 weeks. It aims to raise £1 million by mid-2014.
Reuben’s mum Nicola, who works for Red Sea Holidays, and who gave a moving speech at the Globes, said: “It’s more than we could ever have imagined, we are thrilled. One guest pledged a significant amount and we would like to say thank you to them and everyone for their support.”
