French air traffic strike causes ‘extensive’ delays

Flights to and from France face “extensive” delays today as air traffic controllers joined strike action across the country.

Problems are expected to be especially bad on services in the north and east of France, Eurocontrol warned.

EasyJet said the French Directorate General for Civil Aviation confirmed it expects an “undetermined level” of union participation in a strike within the air traffic control department which may cause disruption to services.

“We strongly advise passengers travelling to and from French airports to keep checking our website for updates,” the airline said.

“There also remains some risk of delay and possible cancellation to our services that over-fly French airspace during 31st January. While details still remain unclear, the risk of disruption to these services is expected to be relatively low.”

The situation was being compounded by delays at Heathrow this morning due to strong winds, according to Eurocontrol.
