Attack on resort deals blow to Tunisia tourism revival

Attempts to revive tourism to Tunisia suffered a blow as Islamic militants torched part of a new holiday complex in the beach resort of Hergla (pictured).

A bar and watersports facilities were damaged in the resort 80 miles south of Tunis, the Sunday Times reported.

The attack came as the country prepares to unveil a marketing campaign under the slogan ‘Live in Tunisia freely’.

But local business owners think the campaign is premature, the newspaper claimed.

One was quoted as saying: “Tunisia requires a minimum of political and social stability before launching campaigns.”

Correction: A previous version of this story mistakenly stated that the attack on the holiday complex involved a bomb. This has now been corrected.
