n alamo appointsharwood to EMEA role



Alamo Rent A Car has promoted Nick Harwood to regional vice-president EMEA sales. Harwood joined Alamo in 1992 and most recently worked as senior director of UK/EMEA sales. He will be based at Alamo’s London headquarters.



n galileo signs up carriers for web site



Galileo has signed up British Airways, Midway Airlines and US Airways to participate in its forthcoming consumer Web site, Galileo.com. So far, 16 travel suppliers have agreed to become involved in the venture, which the company claims will offer reduced distribution costs to those who post special offers on the site.



n psa records 13% rise in cruise passengers



The Passenger Shipping Association has reported a 13% rise in ocean cruise passengers to 729,000 in 1999. Growth was higher than the 11% increase the organisation had forecast. PSA director Bill Gibbons said investment in new ships and routes was encouraging first-timers.



n brook resigns from sandals position



Sandals director of sales international markets Jeremy Brook has resigned for personal reasons. A spokeswoman said his role will not be directly replaced but taken over by fellow directors Martin Grass and Sue Case.



n muirhead replaces gooding in aoa role



Manchester Airport chief executive Geoff Muirhead has been elected as chairman of the Airport Operators’ Association. He takes over from London City Airport managing director Richard Gooding. His role involves Government talks on the safety, development and competitiveness of UK airports.
