Crete left undamaged after Mediterranean earthquake

No damage or casualties have been reported following an earthquake in the Mediterranean south of Crete in the early hours of Sunday morning.


The magnitude 5.6 earthquake occurred at 12.39am local time on Sunday, some 31 miles off the south coast of Crete at a depth of 16 miles.


A magnitude 5.9 quake had struck on Saturday evening, a little south of the latest earthquake and closer to the surface, the Athens Geodynamics Institute was reported as saying by news agency AP.
