British tourists to sue Tui over Dominican Republic holiday

Holidaymakers who staged a sit-in at their hotel in the Dominican Republic are taking Tui Travel to court, reports claim.

The Mirror reports that lawyers are seeking to claim compensation against Tui after guests fell ill and reportedly had their luxury resort “overrun by drunken locals”.

Angry tourists staged a sit-in at Riu Resort in Puerto Plata earlier this month where they demanded to be moved to other hotels.

Suki Chhokar, a lawyer at Irwin Mitchell who are representing the group, said: “We are concerned to hear reports of the health and safety concerns they raised about people urinating and defecating in the pool.”

Thomson said that some customers had “expressed a disappointment with the levels of service” and it had moved them elsewhere.
