Explosion near popular Tunisian resort

A suicide bomb attack has taken place in front of a hotel in the popular tourist destination of Sousse, Tunisia.


The BBC reported the attack occurred on a beach near a the Riadh Palms hotel at 9.45am local time.


Tunisia’s Tap state news agency said the male attacker, who was wearing a belt of explosives, was killed. There have been no reports of any further injuries.


A similar attack was prevented moments later when a would-be suicide bomber was captured by police at the tomb of former president Habib Bourguiba in the town of Monastir about 20km south along the coast from Sousse.
