Travel Counsellors reports business travel upturn

Business travel sales at Travel Counsellors business travel arm are up by 19% over last year.

Corporate travel now accounts for 28% of the business overall.

The company’s travel management division saw 500 new corporate accounts opened this year, ranging from small start-up businesses to a number of global entities.

The group’s global presence, operating in seven countries, helped to secure multi-country accounts.

More agents have expanded into business travel with 40% now having at least one corporate travel account.

The company plans to introduce dedicated business travel training sessions for Travel Counsellors who are keen to grow their business further by taking on business travel accounts.

Managing director Steve Byrne said: “Our international offering has really kicked into play giving our agents a huge competitive advantage in securing multi-country accounts.

“With corporate Travel Counsellors on the ground in seven countries, our agents are able to offer a comprehensive client support service around the clock. We will continue to utilise our global presence to capitalise on further growth in our business division.”

He added: “We’ve certainly seen a prominent increase in our agents moving into the corporate travel sector. Business travel certainly offers a strategic opportunity for growth so we will continue to develop our tools and technology to ensure our Travel Counsellors have access to the best global deals and unparalleled business development support to help them build their businesses.

“Our figures for this year highlight that our approach to corporate travel is working with a clear demand for a personal, tailor-made service evident.

“Seventy per cent of new business is referred to us by our current clientele which further validates that business travellers value our service and are moving away from online booking tools as they prefer more personal customer service.”
