ITE members to trial supermarket pop-ups

Independent Travel Experts has secured a deal with a major supermarket chain for temporary pop-up travel agencies during the next three months.

The homeworking chain, part of The Travel Network Group, said the agreement with 30 stores in the north of England would give members the chance to increase their local brand awareness.

All the pop-ups will be set up for just one day each initially.
The first will be on January 15
in Chester.

ITE director Paula Turner said: “This is another way of building members’ brands. So far there has been a lot of interest from members. They can negotiate a date to suit them with their local store.”

Turner, who refused to disclose which supermaket the deal was with, said there was no reason to think homeworkers could not also get bookings on the day while manning their pop-up agency.

“At this time of year we would hopefully get bookings from it. Homeworkers can transact bookings anywhere and can take customers’ money in the store,” she said.

The homeworking group, which approached the supermarket with the idea, said it would be monitoring the scheme’s success to gauge if it was worth rolling out nationwide in the future.

“At the moment it’s just in the north of England,” said Turner.

ITE has 70 members, but is still recruiting.

Turner said its members were helping swell its ranks by recommending former colleagues to join.
