Westerners, including Britons, were singled out and attacked by some protestors as part of violent demonstrations in Egypt over the weekend.
The disclosure came in an updated travel advisory from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office which said around 80 deaths had been reported at protests in Cairo, Alexandria and Fayoum.
“There are ongoing protests and clashes within university campuses across the country,” the FCO added.
“If you become aware of any nearby protests, leave the area immediately. Don’t attempt to cross road blocks erected by the security forces or protesters.
“At protests on 24 and 25 January westerners, including British Nationals, were singled out and attacked by some protestors.”

Since former President Mohammed Morsi was removed from office last July there have been violent clashes between the opposing groups and the security forces.
Egypt’s top military body is today reported as giving its approval for armed forces chief Field Marshal Abdul Fattah al-Sisi, who led the ousting of President Morsi, to run for the presidency.
