Agents advised to contact hotels after OHG collapse

Abta has advised agents to contact the hotelier about any bookings made through failed supplier Holiday Brokers.

The bed bank’s parent, OHG Accommodation, collapsed this morning blaming the impact of a VAT assessment by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.

A last ditch attempt to protect all forward bookings, valued at £19 million, through a deal with Tui Travel’s Hotelbeds fell through last night.

A spokeswoman for Abta said: “Our advice to agents is to contact the hotel to check the status of the booking.

“If there is a problem with the booking and it has been sold as part of a package or as part of flight-plus, or if it has been sold in your own name as a principal agents will be liable to rebook an alternative or refund.”

The same advice was given to agents who have customers currently on holiday.

OHG Accommodation’s accommodation-only supplier Holiday Brokers was not an Abta member.

Advice issued by Abta to consumers said: “The On Holiday Group entered administration on Friday 7/3/14.

“The group operated an accommodation provider called OHG Accommodation Ltd  trading as Holiday Brokers, which sold through travel agents.

“‘Holiday Brokers’ was not an Abta member and members of the public should contact their travel agent for further advice.

“Other parts of the group were run as managed branches of Abta member the Mid-Counties Co-operative Ltd (Abta numbers – P5638, P5661 and P6636).

“This should be clear on consumers’ paperwork and Mid Counties Co-operative Ltd will be ensuring that customers either receive their original booking or are rebooked a suitable alternative.

“Consumers booked through other travel agents should contact their Abta member for assistance.”
