Tui U-turn on plan to shut Swansea call centre

The future of a Tui UK & Ireland call centre in Swansea, which had been due to close, has been secured – and the company is now recruiting more staff.

The group, which runs the call centre for its cruise brands, announced in September it was to carry out a consultation on the closure proposals for its cruise support and sales team.

The closure would have affected 34 full-time staff at the CruiseDeals sales centre, and 14 members of the Thomson and Island Cruise support team.

But instead of going ahead with the closure, Tui UK & Ireland has now announced it has vacancies at the business, according to the South Wales Evening Post.

Tui had planned to relocate cruise support to its Luton head office where the back office cruise team is based.

The Swansea call centre’s long-term future has been secured as a satellite operation supporting the company’s centre in Coventry.

Retail and financial service director Kathryn Ward said: “The team in Swansea is highly respected across our business for the high levels of service and support they provide to our customers.

“I am therefore delighted that as well as being able to keep the call centre open we now have vacancies to fill.”

Current vacancies available include contact centre agents and a training consultant, although the company said it expects to announce more vacancies shortly.
