An eight-car commuter train is reported to have derailed at Chicago’s O’Hare airport, injuring 32 people on board.

The train failed to stop at an underground station at one of the busiest airports in the US, according to Sky News.

Initial reports said none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

The derailment happened around 2.50am local time (7.50am UK time).

Chicago Fire Commissioner Jose Santiago said the train “climbed over the last stop, jumped up on the sidewalk and then went up the stairs and escalator”.

The Chicago Transit Authority is trying to discover what led to the accident, but a spokesman said it appeared the train was travelling too fast.
