Ryanair has raised an order for Boeing 737-800s by five to 180 to enable route expansion for next summer.
The additional aircraft – due for delivery next year and 2016 – brings the value of the airline’s order book to more than $16 billion.
Ryanair will now take 21 aircraft deliveries – up from 17 – between September this year and July 2015.
This will enable the airline to open more routes and add frequencies on existing routes for summer 2015.
Chief executive Michael O’Leary said: “These new Boeing aircraft enable Ryanair to keep the fleet average age below five years, while providing our customers with unmatched punctuality, reliability and an improved customer experience.
“Now that we have four more aircraft (21 in total) for Summer 2015, Ryanair will offer more new routes and increased frequencies to more customers than ever before.”
