Hays Travel is the latest company to offer its customers the chance to support good causes and win prizes with the Travel Lottery.
The Travel Lottery, the sustainable tourism fundraiser from UK charity the Travel Foundation, is available in Hays Travel’s 44 retail branches, and will be offered during the booking process.
Tickets will also be available at Bath Travel’s 60 branches in the coming weeks. The launch will be supported by in-store point of sale materials.
As a Travel Lottery partner, Hays Travel will receive regular updates showing where the money raised is being used, to share with staff and customers.
The Travel Foundation also provides Travel Lottery partners with marketing and PR, training, strategic and technical support around the Travel Lottery to help with smooth set-up, integration and day-to-day operations.
The agency group’s retail and training director Jane Schumm said: “We’re looking forward to giving our customers the chance to enter The Travel Lottery as well as contributing to the charitable projects the Travel Foundation supports in holiday destinations worldwide.
“What’s more, we can use commission we earn from ticket sales to support our chosen local community charities, including ‘Oliver’s eyes’ and ‘CHUF’, and to help launch our community partnership to Bath Travel agents.”
Salli Felton, acting chief executive of the Travel Foundation, said: “It’s great to welcome Hays Travel as a partner. The Travel Lottery is quickly building momentum and we are grateful to the early-adopters who are turning the lottery’s potential into reality.
“The Travel Lottery gives the travel industry a unique way to raise funds for good causes, earn extra commission, and engage with their customers – a real win-win!”
To date there have been three winners from the monthly draw:
• The first ever winner, Sarah Richards from Herefordshire, scooped £1,000 cash in March’s draw. She bought the winning £2 ticket through Holiday Extras online, when booking her airport parking for a holiday to Egypt with OnTheBeach.co.uk;
• Davy Tague from London was the second jackpot winner in April. He signed up online at thetravellottery.co.uk to play in every monthly draw;
• Last month’s winner, Mark Harrison from Norwich, also bought his ticket while booking airport parking with Holiday Extras. He and his girlfriend, Sheena, returned from their late deal to Turkey with Thomson, to find they had won enough to cover the cost of the holiday!
