Aircraft forced to make emergency landing in Cork

A Boeing 737 charter flight from Belfast to Barcelona was forced to make an emergency landing in Cork last night.

The Europe Airpost aircraft with 144 passengers and six crew on board, who were flying with Air Contractors, landed safely just before midnight and was attended to by emergency crews, Sky News reported.

Unconfirmed reports suggested the aircraft operated by the French carrier circled the airport three times before it was able to land.

There were no reports of any injuries and the passengers were put up in local hotels for the rest of the night.

An airport spokesman said: “We activated our emergency plan but the plane landed safely. The plane is grounded subject to inspection but it’s not thought there was a leak.”

The passengers were expected to be able to continue onto Barcelona later today.
