Mobile beach rolled out to promote VAT cut campaign

A mobile beach on board a flatbed truck will travel from Downing Street to Parliament Square today as part of the ongoing campaign to cut VAT on UK tourism from 20% to 5%.

The ‘beach’ will arrive in time for Prime Minister’s Questions and will consist of a lorry, complete with sand, deck chairs and sunbathers and will be at Whitehall, Downing Street, Parliament Square and College Green between 11.30 and 13:00.

Over 60 politicians from across the UK have come out in support of the Cut Tourism VAT campaign, which wants VAT on hotels and attractions to be reduced to 5%.

The hospitality and tourism industries are making the case in order to drive investment and jobs in regional towns.

It’s hoped that reduced prices will increase Britain’s appeal and create over 120,000 jobs in the sectors, while adding around £4bn to economic output.
