Emirates agrees Boeing deal after Airbus cancellation

A $56 billion order for 150 Boeing 777Xs has been finalised by Emirates just weeks after cancelling an order with rival Airbus.

The deal, which was first agreed in November, includes purchase rights for an additional 50 aircraft which, if exercised, could increase the value to about $75 billion at list prices, Boeing said.

Emirates, which is the largest operator of the 777, now has 208 orders for 777s pending, and is operating 138 of them globally.

Confirmation of the order had been expected after the Dubai-based airline last month cancelled its $16 billion deal for 70 Airbus A350s.

Emirates was due to receive its first A350 in 2019, but the 777X is not due for delivery until 2020.

The airline said it had chosen to cancel the order from the European manufacturer as part of a review of its fleet requirements.
