Garuda Indonesia is to start one-stop flights from Gatwick to Jakarta on September 8.
The service will operate five times a week via Amsterdam using a Boeing 777-300ER.
The route will connect with the carrier’s onward services to Australia.
Garuda originally planned to start a non-stop service in May but postponed the launch due to difficulty in obtaining slots at Gatwick during the summer peak.
The new 77 to be used on the service will carry 314 passengers in a three-class configuration with eight seats in first class, 38 in business class, and 268 in economy.
In-flight internet connection will be available together with access to live broadcasts from six international channels including CNN International, BBC World and live football matches.
Garuda president and CEO Emirsyah Satar said: “The opening of the London–Jakarta service will support economic activities between Indonesia and the UK, in light of the growing trade transaction between the countries each year.
“In addition, we hope the operation of this new route will have a positive impact on the local business scene.”
