Thousands of passengers faced cancelled flights and delays as Italian air traffic controllers walked out on strike for four hours on Saturday.
Ryanair cancelled 96 flights, while 60 easyJet flights were affected, including 20 into and out of the UK.
British Airways said it rescheduled some flights but sought to minimise disruption.
Ryanair’s cancelled flights included seven into and out of the UK, among them Manchester to Bologna, Stansted to Ancona and Trieste, and Liverpool to Pisa.
Among the easyJet cancellations were flights from Gatwick to Pisa, Bristol to Pisa, and Milan to Edinburgh.
BA cancelled two Heathrow-bound flights from Rome and one from Milan during the afternoon but ran later services from both cities.
