Thomson has emerged as one of the top travel brands in the first quarterly ranking of the UK’s top 50 online retailers.
The Thomson.co.uk site achieved 16th place, just above Expedia and easyJet, in the inaugural top 50 retailer list – a new league table to show the 50 most visited retail sites.
It has been compiled by the UK’s online retail association IMRG and comScore, an internet technology company which uses analytics to measure website traffic.
Other travel companies making the top 50 include Trainline.com in 12th position, Ryanair (22nd), Thomas Cook (23rd), lastminute.com (28th), Travel republic (32nd), Premier Inn (34th), On the Beach (35th), British Airways (36th), eDreams (41st) and Travelodge (45th).
He top 10 positions are held by Amazon, Argos, Apple, Tesco, Asda, Next, Marks & Spencer, Asos, Netflix and National Rail.
The rankings are based on website visitors. Only transactional websites were included, so price comparison websites are excluded.
IMRG managing director Graeme Howe said that holiday websites are well represented in the rankings, after the travel sector recorded its strongest July performance since 2010.
He said: “It is not a surprise to see travel websites such as Expedia and EasyJet in the list, as it reflects the travel sector’s strong performance in our latest e-retail sales index.
“The correlation we can see between popularity and sales also highlights just how robust our data is.”
